To make this 1930s colonial home accessible, the homeowners decided to install a residential elevator. Prior to this project, there had been several additions constructed. The new elevator was designed to replace two staircases in the addition constructed in the 1990s. A new continuous shaft was constructed, leaving the exterior completely unchanged. To provide egress from this space, a new bridge and staircase were constructed to connect the third floors of two separate additions. The bridge was kept clear of the complex intersection of roof valleys below to allow for drainage.
